offers international volunteer and internship abroad Hiv and Aids work
opportunities
throughout the year for students, professionals and tourist to the
Island of Zanzibar, in the African country of Tanzania.
International
volunteers and interns abroad with the
Acquired Immune Deficiency Syndrome (AIDS) program in Zanzibar,
Tanzania will be attached to a local HIV and AIDS Voluntary Testing
Center (VTC) located about 3km from the city of Zanzibar. The HIV and
AIDS center has been running since February 2004 and is operated by
local Youth Groups.
The goal of this
VCT
is to support the government and global efforts in fighting HIV and
AIDS spread and stigmatism, Drug Abuse and Environmental degradation by
mobilizing youth (both affected and unaffected) in participating in
Sports and Games. The center also provides health care education,
voluntary counseling and testing; home-based care for HIV and AIDS
affected persons.
Overseas interns
and
volunteers abroad with the Zanzibar AIDS project will accompany the
currently local staff in their daily routine activities. They will
participate in offering free medical care to patients of HIV and AIDS
and the affected families as well as providing home-based care and
treatment for the patients.
International
volunteers and interns abroad with the Zanzibar AIDS and HIV project
will also be involved in teaching about sexuality and Sexually
Transmitted Diseases (STDs) to youths and their parents as well as
answering Frequently Asked Questions about HIV and other STDs. Zanzibar
HIV volunteers and interns will also assist teaching English as a
second language to local Zanzibar staff.

Starting Dates: 1st
and 3rd Wednesday of every Month Airport
Arrival Time:
Any time of that Wednesday.
Accommodation and
Meals: Zanzibar
overseas
volunteers and interns
abroad stay with carefully selected host families and sometimes in
local hostels and are provided two local meals per day; breakfast and
dinner.
Transportation:
Volunteer
and internship placements in Zanzibar are
within walking distance of the host home. You can also take local
public transport to and from your volunteer project work. The cost will
normally not exceed USD 1.00 per day.
Schedule
of work:
Normally Mondays
to Fridays; 4 – 8 hours a day. Most weekends are free to
explore Tanzania and Zanzibar.
Age Limit:
18 and
above, from all countries of origin and
residence. Persons under 18 are allowed provided they must be
accompanied by someone aged 21 and above who will
be a
guardian or community leader such as a school shaperon, priest etc.
Length
of
Program: We have
volunteer
abroad and international internship opportunities for long term,
short-term periods and for groups. You
can volunteer or intern for a minimum
of two (2) weeks to 6 months with possibilities for one year placements
for the right candidates.

guaranteed a group discount.
