Located
just South
of the Equator, the African country of Tanzania comprises of the
Mainland and the Indian Ocean Islands of Zanzibar. The Islands of
Zanzibar, Africa's hidden Paradise have fascinated explorers since AD
60 with famous legendary explorers such as Portuguese
Vasco da Gama and
British James Lancaster.
Volunteers abroad
and overseas interns who sign
up for the Zanzibar program have
an
opportunity to visit a host of exotic tourist attractions including the
narrow and winding labyrinth streets of Stone town, the famous house of
wonders, Prison Island, the house occupied by legendary slave trade
abolitionist, Dr David Livingstone, and spice farms. The
Island has lots of old architectural sites to explore, warm quiet
waters to swim, dive or snorkel in, wetland ecosystems, spice farms,
white expansive
sandy beaches and a most friendly people.
Placement
Opportunities Abroad
Jubileeventures.org
has a range of exciting voluntary service abroad opportunities and
overseas internship placements to choose from in Zanzibar. You can work
a number of project areas including teaching,
medical
voluntary work, nature and
environmental conservation, childrens
orphanages or childrens
home and hiv/aids.
International
voluntary service work and internship abroad opportunities are provided
under six different programs: the Standard Volunteer
or Internship
programs, Language
and Culture Program and the Adventure
Zanzibar, Zanzibar
International Explorer and the Best
of Zanzibar
programs. You
can also combine a number of programs such as the adventure and
Language and culture program.
Program Highlights
Arrival and
Starting Dates: 1st
and 3rd Wednesday of every Month
Airport
Arrival Time:
Any time of that Wednesday.
Accommodation and
Meals: Zanzibar
overseas
volunteers and interns
abroad stay with carefully selected host families and sometimes in
local hostels and are provided two local meals per day; breakfast and
dinner.
Transportation:
Volunteer
and internship placements in Zanzibar are
within walking distance of the host home. You can also take local
public transport to and from your volunteer project work. The cost will
normally not exceed USD 1.5 per day.
Schedule
of work:
Normally Mondays
to Fridays; 4 – 8 hours a day. Most weekends are free to
explore Tanzania and Zanzibar.
Age
Limit: 18
and
above, from all countries of origin and
residence. Persons under 18 are allowed provided they must be
accompanied by someone aged 21 and above who will
be a
guardian or community leader such as a school shaperon, priest etc.
Length
of
Program: We have
volunteer
abroad and international internship opportunities for long term,
short-term periods and for groups. You
can volunteer or intern for a minimum
of two (2) weeks to 6 months with possibilities for one year placements
for the right candidates.
Groups:
Groups of more than two people are
guaranteed a group discount.
