Beach
Holiday Program combines international volunteer and internship
placement with
exciting 6-day beach experience and tours of Tanzania’s largest
city
of Dar es Salaam, and
the Island of Zanzibar. International
volunteers
and overseas interns will have time to simply relax at the beach, swim,
snorkel
and tour these east African cities.
A
Typical two
week schedule of the Tanzania Beach Holiday Program looks as
follows:

Day
1: Arrival and pick up from
the Arusha, Kilimanjaro International
Airport and transfer to host family home
Day
2: Morning:
registration and start of orientation.
About 4 hours lecture at
the
home of your host. Topics covered during orientation lecture will
include East African culture, history, customs, politics, geography,
and necessary health precautions, and various other topics, such as the
diversity of Tanzanian life. Afternoon is free for exploring
rural Tanzanian life and getting to know your host family.
Day
3: Intentional
volunteers and interns abroad leave for project early in
the morning after breakfast. Introductions held with project staff, and
the host family.
Day
3-7:
Voluntary service or internship work abroad. Volunteers
and interns are free to explore the surrounding areas in
their free time.
Day
7-12: Dar es Salaam Beach Holiday Trip (6 days)
Day
7: Travel
to Dar es Salaam
International volunteers and interns travel to and from Dar es Salaam
will be by bus, leaving Moshi in the morning and arriving in
Dar in the evening.
Day
8: Tour
of Dar es Salaam City. After
breakfast international volunteers and interns abroad in Tanzania
proceed on a full day city tour of Dar es Salaam city including
wonderful beaches and famous places including the national museum,
Statehouse, Bismarck and Askari monuments, Uhuru torch, Dar Railway
Station, Republic fountain, village Museum and Nyerere cultural center.
Breakfast,
dinner and overnight at your hotel.
Day
9: Zanzibar Tour: Early
after breakfast
international volunteers and interns abroad in Tanzania start out on a
two hour ferry or boat ride to the Island of Zanzibar.
Guided
tour of the city of Zanzibar featuring the old town of Zanzibar,
fondly known as Stone Town.
The tour is covered mainly on foot,
providing the guests the opportunity to stroll through the narrow
winding labyrinth alleys and behold uniquely carved Arab doors with
brass studs, carved balconies; the House
of Wonders; the Palace Museum (People's
Palace); Dr
Livingstone's House;
cathedrals
and countless
mosques; and Zanzibar's bustling market. Stone Town has excellent gifts
shops with plenty of souvenirs handicrafts and splendid artifacts to
choose from.
Dinner and overnight at an economy hotel.
Day
10: Jozani Forest Tour:
Overseas volunteers and international interns will take a half day tour
of this famous wetland forest, the only wetland remaining on Zanzibar
island. The wetland is about 45 minutes drive from the city center. It
is home to the only surviving members of the red Columbus monkey, an
almost extinct species. The local guide will show the international
volunteers to colonies of the primates and guide them through the
delightful swamp in the middle of the wetland and small streams flowing
into the ocean and lots of birds of the mangrove wetland ecosystem. The
rest of the day is free to relax.
Dinner and overnight at hotel.
Day
11: Dar es Salaam: Beach Relaxation:
Leave
Zanzibar early morning for Dar es Salaam by boat or ferry. The
entire morning is free for international volunteers and
interns
abroad
in Tanzania to do what they like best. Simply relax, and enjoy the
beach
at the hotel, swim in the blue waters of Indian Ocean, or take a
private excursion for wind surfing, scuba diving, water skiing,
snorkeling, deep-sea fishing or goggling.
In
the
afternoon take a ferry ride to Dar es Salaam. Dinner
and overnight at hotel.
Day
12: Dar es Salam - Moshi: After
breakfast, international volunteers
and
interns abroad in Tanzania transfer take a bus from Dar to
Moshi.
Day
13: Morning - Evaluation of
Program; Afternoon is free.
Day
14: After
breakfast, international volunteers and interns
abroad in Tanzania are free to leave at will. Those continuing with
the Program proceed to project palcement.

Kindly
note that during the Tanzania Beach Holiday Program we
will provide excursion tours, gate fees,
accommodation,
dinner, and
breakfast. You
will cater for your lunch
throughout
the excursion period. During trips for this program, accommodation
is in shared economy hotels. At you request different
arrangements
can be
made to suite your needs with costs borne by you. Those who want to
enter the Bagamoyo slave trade museum will need to pay USD 35
at
the gate.
The specifics of this program may be altered to fit into conditions on
the ground.
