Day 1: Arrival
and pick up from the Arusha,
Kilimanjaro, International Airport, in Arusha, Tanzania and transfer to
host family home. Those
Day 2: Morning:
registration and start of orientation. About 4 hours lecture at
the home of your host. Topics covered
during orientation lecture will include East African culture, history,
customs, politics, geography, and necessary health precautions, and
various other topics, such as the diversity of Tanzania life. Afternoon
is free for exploring rural Tanzania and getting
to know your host family.
Day
3: Intentional
volunteers and interns abroad will work with children at a local
orphanage or teach at a local school depending on what is
available close to their place of residence.
Day 3-7:
Tanzania Serengeti Wilderness Safari: (5 Days)
In
Tanzania’s
greatest Rift Valley wilderness parks adventurous volunteers and
overseas interns will encounter over 450 bird species, and numerous
species of animals including gazelles; impala; buffalo; wildebeest; the
famous tree climbing lion; hyena; baboon; giraffe; hippopotamus, lions,
leopards, elephants, rhinos, zebras, thousands of wildebeests, etc
– over a million animals in total.
Day 3: Lake
Manyara: After about 9 days
of work,
its time to have fun - overseas volunteers and Africa interns on this
program leave Moshi, early morning and proceed to Lake Manyara
National Park for game drive. Picnic lunch en-route, dinner and
overnight at Campsite.
Day 4:
Olduvai-Serengeti:
Depart Lake Manyara for Serengeti via Olduvai Gorge with lots of game
viewing en-route. Olduvai is a world famous archaeological site in
which early human fossils were first discovered. It has an amazing
landscape that resulted from the tectonic forces, which created the
Great Rift Valley. Evening game drive. If you are lucky you may witness
the great Serengeti – Masai Mara wildebeest migration. Dinner
and overnight at Serengeti campsite. Visit Olduvai Gorge a site of
archeological importance - home to some of the earliest ancestors of
man.
Day 5:
Serengeti:
A full day of African wilderness experience in the Serengeti. If you
are lucky you may witness the great Serengeti – Masai Mara
wildebeest migration. Picnic lunch, Dinner and overnight at Serengeti
campsite.
Day 6:
Serengeti/Ngorongoro: Depart
Lake Manyara for
Serengeti with lots of game viewing en-route and in the afternoon.
Picnic lunch. If you are lucky you may witness the great Serengeti
– Masai Mara wildebeest migration. Dinner
and overnight at Ngorongoro campsite.
Day 7:
Ngorongoro- Moshi: Morning
game drive. Later
game drive and picnic lunch en-route to Moshi. Arrive in Moshi late
afternoon.
Day
8-13: Dar es Salaam Beach Holiday Trip (6 days)
Day
8: Travel
to Dar es Salaam
International volunteers and interns travel to and from Dar es Salaam
will be by bus, leaving Moshi in the morning and arriving in
Dar in the evening.
Ideally,
accommodation in Dar es Salaam will be in a conventional hotel rooms or
in
makuti (coconut palm) thatched beach rooms with conventional hotel
amenities including. Community room will have satellite television,
telephone, mini-bar and restaurant. Some hotels will have
diving school and tennis courts. Dinner and overnight at
hotel.
Day
9: Tour
of Dar es Salaam City. After
breakfast international volunteers and interns abroad in Tanzania
proceed on a full day city tour of Dar es Salaam city including
wonderful beaches and famous places including the national museum,
Statehouse, Bismarck and Askari monuments, Uhuru torch, Dar Railway
Station, Republic fountain, village Museum and Nyerere cultural center.
Breakfast,
dinner and overnight at your hotel.
Day
10: Zanzibar Tour: Early
after breakfast
international volunteers and interns abroad in Tanzania start out on a
two hour ferry or boat ride to the Island of Zanzibar.
Guided
tour of the city of Zanzibar featuring the old town of Zanzibar,
fondly known as Stone Town.
The tour is covered mainly on foot,
providing the guests the opportunity to stroll through the narrow
winding labyrinth alleys and behold uniquely carved Arab doors with
brass studs, carved balconies; the House
of Wonders; the Palace Museum (People's
Palace); Dr
Livingstone's House;
cathedrals
and countless
mosques; and Zanzibar's bustling market. Stone Town has excellent gifts
shops with plenty of souvenirs handicrafts and splendid artifacts to
choose from.
Dinner and overnight at an economy hotel.
