Kenya
Medical
& Dental Voluntary Service Abroad
Africa
health volunteer placements are open
to medical professionals
including doctors, dentists, nurses, medical
laboratory technologists, etc. They are also open to students in all
medical
fields. A professional license, relevant student ID or college letter
showing
your program and level of study is required at the start of your
medical
volunteer placement abroad.
All
prospective international medical volunteers also need to submit a
resume
showing their area and level of expertise and what they hope to achieve
from
the medical volunteer placement in Africa. Prep-program
students (such as pre-meds) should apply for the medical
internships, not the medical volunteer program.
There
are a number of medical and dental clinics in Kenya
where voluntary healthcare workers
can be placed.
We also have wonderful international volunteer placement opportunities
for dentists and dental technicians and hygienists in a number of
Kenyan hospital dental units. You
can also volunteer or do your internship as a dental or
medical assistant at one of the local
hospitals.
Kenyan
medical clinics, health centers and hospitals vary in size
and number of patients from as many as 5 per day to as many as
200 or more. Generally
overseas interns and volunteers abroad in medical and dental work
will assist and support
local doctor/dentists, nurses and clinicians in the
normal
routine
of medical work including taking vital signs, dressing wounds,
taking
patients history, counseling patients, providing
assurance and moral support to patients' family, disbursing minor drugs
etc.
International healthcare volunteers and interns in Kenya will be
expected to work for
between 3 to 8
hours a day. You
will find the Kenya dental
and
medical volunteering abroad opportunity
enlightening and rewarding.
Many
of the Kenyan healthcare facilities lack modern facilities and
the few that are available are often broken down from overuse. Any
donations of facilities are welcome. Such donations can be channeled to
the hospitals directly. Please Contact
Us for
advise and information.
