In
addition to
volunteer abroad placement, we offer international
internships to work with orphaned children in Kenya, Africa.
Volunteer
With
Children in Kenya
The
greatest cause of
prevalence abandoned children on the streets
in Kenya is poverty. As the HIV/AIDS pandemic takes its toll many kids
have been left without parents to take care of them. Such neglected
kids have often been taken by other families or by charitable persons
and groups and put up in orphanages. Orphanage operators are often in
great need of labor support to supplement their efforts.
International
volunteers at orphanages often teach the schools at the orphanage or in
nearby public schools that orphanage children attend; assist
in
preparing meals for the
kids;
doing the dishes and doing the many chores that
running such a place entails. In the evening, once the kids are back
from school, interns abroad in Kenya play with them
and assist
them with
their homework.
International volunteers and interns abroad will be expected to work
for
between
3 to 8
hours a day.
Orphanages vary in size hosting between 10 and 300 or
more children. Due
to scarcity of resources, chidren Homes or orphanage
facilities are
normally constrained and some orphanages are in dire need of repair,
and basic amenities like beddings. Many children are
often malnourished. Besides voluntary services, any help that
Kenya volunteers and interns can provide will always be appreciated.
